thanks

thanks, wordpress

Hey, folks. Etikser here. Hi to all, and happy summer.

Thanks, WordPress, for fixing my Reader. ‘Cause I can use my Reader again in a way that’s not nearly as tedious. I don’t know the how or the wherefore. I just know I can keep up again, with the bloggers I follow, without scrolling and scrolling needlessly over material I’ve already seen. Don’t know how it happened or how it was fixed, but I very much appreciate the adjustment.

    1. I don’t know how to do it without the reader. Guess we all have our habits. I used to use a list too for following people, but that part is still not working. I can’t seem to access it. How do you get posts to open without the reader?

    1. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m using the classic editor. I insert photos and just type when I want to write paragraphs. Sometimes the system doesn’t cooperate, but I can usually get what I want if I keep working it.

      1. I have the Business plan so I can use plugins. I use the classic editor, never used that stupid block editor! If I’m forced to use the block thing, I may move to a different platform. WP keeps making stupid decisions.

      2. You are most likely just using the default blocks of Paragraph and Image. Under the Classic you get a menu bar similar to Word and can select from the menu bar for Bold, Italics, buttons, quotes, Paste as Text, Special Characters, among other options. Also, with the Classic you could specify text or background color as you can in Word with an infinite number of customized colors.
You can also specify the size of the pictures like one does in Word, squashing it sideways or vertically unless you use the corner “sizer” to keep the same aspect ratio.

Under Paragraph you get a much shorter menu bar with options under each tab, e.g. under the P you can specify Quote, Buttons, Preformatted, etc. Under the down carrot (reverse of the ^) you can superscript or subscript, but it is more finicky than Classic. Also, with Paragraph you only get 10 colors to choose from (plus black and white) under a Highlight tab for either highlight of text or background.

Under Image you cannot change the width/height ratio. Movement and placement of the photo is more restricted.

I don’t understand why WP has to “retire” the Classic.😤

      3. I generally like when they leave things the way they’ve been. It’s disconcerting when you log in one day and realize they’ve changed the way things worked without a warning or a word of advice how to adjust.
