I took a short walk along the trail on Christmas Eve. There are always crows cawing, and a few other birds. A dog barking, hey you. But the trees are bare, dormant, linear. Leafless trees look very linear, and the textures of the bark more pronounced. Hollies are everywhere, kind of telling one and all, this is our time. Just a few feet off the trail, thorned shrubs snag at my winter jacket, and let me know I’m treading too far.

Winter has its own charm.
