Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
John Lennon, of course. Lucy in the Sky.
Meter to me is unattainable. I can hear it, I’m sure I like it, I just can’t grasp it. It would take a whole lot of focus and concentration for me to get it. Hence, I leave it to the professionals.
John Lennon would have been 81 tomorrow, and Lucy in the Sky begins with one of my favorite lines of all time.

It’s a total crime how John died. My sister and I cried when we heard of the coward shooting him. Still cranks me off to this day…

I still remember learning about it…in disbelief. It seemed like a point when he had really gotten his life together.

It was so sensless! He had his problems like all people do but why? So evil.

Thanks for the reminder about John’s birthday. I can’t even imagine what else he would have done with his life.

Eighty-one! Gone way too soon and far too young.

He was taken too soon. I can remember seeing it on the news .I was so shocked and saddened . Lennon and McCartney were brilliant in their creativity.

Me too. It was years after the Kennedys and MLK, but I remember feeling like it was more of that senselessness.

I think a lot of people don’t realise the talent involved in song writing 🙂

I can only imagine. All the parts have to work together to convey a message, a feeling, whatever.

I stumbled across (quite literally) a baby snapping turtle on a morning walk after hearing that the Lucy in Lucy in the Sky had just died. So when I picked up the little turtle I named it Lucy. As it got bigger we discovered that it was male so we changed its name to Lucky – in lucky I didn’t step on him. We kept him until he was big enough to release, a little over a year. He was quite a character, too. He would get so excited when we walked in the room. Just wanted to share. I miss Lucky. I like the first line of this song, too. Lennon had a huge influence on me, and my poetry I think. Thanks for posting this.

She was quite young, I think. She had a genetic disease. She was a friend of Julian’s; they went to kindergarten together. But then there is a huge psychedelia feel to it.

Very sad. (I googled it, and apparently Julian and she were friends again before she died. There is something special about that.)
